Dr. KOONG, Maggie
Co-Founder of Academy and Deputy Supervisor
Dr. Maggie Koong is the Co-Founder and Deputy Supervisor of Victoria Shanghai Academy, as well as the Chief Principal of Victoria Educational Organisation (VEO). She received her Master of Education from The University of Hong Kong and Doctor of Education from Durham University. Since her return to Hong Kong and joining VEO in 1985, Dr. Koong has spearheaded progress in education in Hong Kong, China and across the world. She serves on the Council of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Women’s Commission and the Equal Opportunities Commission. She is the NGO representative for the United Nations and a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference - Shanghai Committee. Her achievements in public and community service have won her many accolades, including among others a Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award in 2000, a Bronze Bauhinia Star from the HKSAR government in 2013 and Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters awarded by Whittier College, USA in 2014. In the same year, she was the first Chinese to be elected World President of the World Organization for Early Childhood Education (OMEP). In 2015, she was awarded Honorary Fellowship by The Education University of Hong Kong in recognition of her enormous contribution to child development and education.
