I am extremely proud to be the Primary Principal at Victoria Shanghai Academy (VSA), an innovative school that delivers quality inquiry-based education and celebrates Chinese culture in a vibrant international setting.
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) at VSA is unique in that each of our classes has two highly qualified teachers; one Chinese, who teaches in Putonghua (Mandarin), and the other a native English teacher. These teachers work simultaneously to create an authentic, bilingual learning environment that is rich in language.
Our dedicated and dynamic staff is truly international. Originating from all parts of the globe, they bring with them a wide range of experience and skills that enrich the learning of students and colleagues. We have an excellent overall teacher-pupil ratio of 1:11, with learning enhanced by specialist teachers in Art, Music, Drama, Technology, Information Literacy, Physical Education and Learning Support.
As an International Baccalaureate (IB) school situated in SAR Hong Kong, China, we promote strong Chinese values along with the IB Learner Profile to develop students with positive attitudes towards people, the environment, and learning. We work in partnership with parents to produce lifelong learners who value hard work and exemplify the PYP attitudes of appreciation, commitment, confidence, cooperation, creativity, curiosity, empathy, enthusiasm, independence, integrity, respect, and tolerance.
Our curriculum follows the PYP framework, where teachers skillfully scaffold student learning so they possess the necessary skills to inquire into ideas and issues that are significant, engaging and enduring. Students are encouraged to be curious, ask questions, find answers and sort out their ideas in both collaborative and individual settings. By leveraging technology and building relationships with the community, students connect, collaborate and create on local and global levels. Ultimately, students are encouraged to take appropriate action as they develop into responsible world citizens who build a better tomorrow.
At VSA, we are extremely proud to be a community of learners who inquire and grow together as we strive to be the best we can be. We believe that happy and engaged students make successful learners.
