VSA is inviting applications for the following MYP and DP positions for the school year beginning August 2017:

  1. Deputy Principal (Pastoral)

  2. Teacher of Chinese (Native Mandarin) probable Head of Department

  3. Teacher of IB DP Theatre Studies and MYP Drama (possible Head of Department)

  4. French and/or Spanish Teacher

  5. Mathematics Teacher

  6. Science Teacher

  7. Digital Literacy Coach (MYP Educational Technology Integration)

  8. Computer IT/ICT Technology Teacher

  9. History and MYP Individual and Societies Teacher

  1.  Deputy Principal (Pastoral)

       The DP (Pastoral) has major leadership responsibilities in the following:

  • Non-academic development of students.
  • Oversee and develop discipline and pastoral care systems to enhance student learning
  • Oversee the implementation of school rules relating to all areas of student conduct
  • Oversee the maintenance of student attendance, academic, behaviour, ASA, service and other relevant records
  • Oversee the logistics of daily operation at breaks and lunchtimes, such as lunchtime duties for staff, traffic flow, and free period arrangements
  • Compile student lists for Home Rooms and assign teachers to Home Rooms
  • Oversee and manage the Heads of Years team and Homeroom teachers
  • Oversee the organization of assemblies as a vehicle for student centered learning
  • Give input into the strategic plan, and report on pastoral developments linked to the strategic plan

      Person Specification

      The ideal candidate will be/have -

  • a graduate (preferably with a Masters degree)
  • a qualified teacher with teacher registration and a minimum of 8-10 years classroom experience (preferably in MYP and DP programmes)
  • prior experience as a Dean of Students and/or Head of Year or similar
  • Knowledge and understanding of adolescent behavior issues and psychology and a proven ability to relate to and empathise with students
  • A proactive leadership style to engage all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to support the students' academic achievement, personal and social development. 
  • Proven experience implementing and overseeing innovative proactive pastoral programmes in a secondary school context
  • Outstanding organisational skills
  • have a thorough understanding of current developments in educational theory
     

 2.  Teacher of Chinese (Native Mandarin) probable Head of Department

  • Bachelor’s Degree with professional qualifications in education.
  • 6+years of MYP and DP Chinese teaching experience, including both Chinese A and Chinese B courses.
  • Two years of documented experience as Head of Chinese department
  • Extensive curriculum development experience
  • IB examiner in Chinese
  • Experience in a bilingual work place
  • Native Chinese speaker with an excellent command of English
  • An in-depth understanding of Chinese languages, history and cultural heritage
  • Experience blending technologies in progressive pedagogies
  • Intercultural sensibilities and awareness
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Team-orientated and collaborative


    3.  Teacher of IB DP Theatre Studies and MYP Drama (possible Head of Department)

  • An undergraduate degree in Theatre and a recognized teaching qualification
  • Proven leadership and communication skills in organizing arts events, staging major school productions and running a department
  • Experience in teaching drama and theatre to senior secondary
  • Experience in staging major school productions
  • Knowledge of World Theatre

  
    4.  French and/or Spanish Teacher

  • An undergraduate degree in French and/or Spanish and a recognized teaching qualification (or)
  •  A native speaker of French or Spanish with a degree in French or Spanish Literature PLUS a recognized teaching qualification
  • A CELTA or equivalent qualification with EAL experience
     

    5.  Mathematics Teacher

  • An undergraduate degree in Mathematics and a recognized teaching qualification
     

    6.  Science Teacher

  • An undergraduate degree in Science (preferably but not necessarily Physics)
  • A recognized teaching qualification
  • A strong track record of science education excellence from a middle or senior school environment

 
    7.  Digital Literacy Coach (MYP Educational Technology Integration)

  • Fully certified teacher with at least five years of verifiable classroom experience, preferably in a MYP school or a similar inquiry based and transdisciplinary curriculum.
  • Higher degree/graduate certificate in Educational Technology
  • One or more of the following: Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Certified Teacher, Adobe Certified Expert, Adobe Certified Instructor, Adobe Educational Leader.
  • Evidence of recent professional development in digital literacy
  • An understanding of key learning theories and methods of instruction, and their relation to technology integration.
  • Experience in implementing technology initiatives such as learning networks (VLE/LMS, Blogs), digital citizenship, challenge-based learning, game based learning,
  • Experience working in 1:1 learning environments and demonstated confidence to push in to classes and offer support in curriculum areas outside of their own specialism
  • Understanding of adult learners and experience of facilitating adult learning such as leading teacher workshops and one-to-one coaching.
  • In-depth understanding of technology operations and concepts.  
  • Advanced knowledge of Apple software and some ability to troubleshoot technology issues. 
  • Experience evaluating learning technology integration using models
  • Superior communication skills to work with teachers with a range of technological expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload, prioritize tasks, and use good judgment in providing services based on goals.

 
   8.  Computer IT/ICT Technology Teacher

  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related subject
  • A recognized teaching qualification
  • Experience in middle school IT teaching, include CAD, coding and application
  • Familiarity with and experience teaching IB MYP Design
  • Experience working in 1:1 learning environments and experience in implementing technology initiatives school wide

  9. History and MYP Individual and Societies Teacher

  • An undergraduate degree in History
  • A recognized teaching qualification

  • Familiarity with and ideally experience teaching IB (MYP and/or DP)
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a new cultural environment
