Message from Primary School Principal

I am extremely proud to be the Primary Principal at such an engaging and innovative school that values every member of the learning community and supports them in exploring their passions and achieving their goals.

Victoria Shanghai Academy is an amazing school for students to learn, grow and thrive.  Our Primary Years Programme (PYP) is unique in that each of our classes has two highly qualified teachers; one Chinese, who teaches in Putonghua, and the other a native English teacher.  Our dedicated teachers work together to create an authentic bilingual learning environment that is both convergent and immersive, and is extremely rich in language and learning.

Our dynamic staff is truly international, originating from all parts of the globe. They bring with them a wide range of experience and skills that enrich the learning of students and colleagues. We have an excellent overall teacher-student ratio with learning further enhanced by specialist teachers in Art, Music, Drama, Innovation and Technology, Library and Information Literacy, Physical Education, as well as Language Learning and Support.

Our curriculum follows the PYP framework, where teachers skillfully scaffold learning so students develop necessary skills to inquire into ideas and issues that are significant, engaging and relevant. Students are encouraged to be curious, ask questions, find answers and sort out their ideas and present their findings in both collaborative and individual settings. By leveraging innovative technologies and building relationships with the community, learners connect, collaborate, problem solve and create, and are encouraged to take appropriate action on a local and global level as they develop into responsible world citizens who build a better tomorrow.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School situated in Hong Kong SAR, China, we promote strong Chinese traditional values along with the attributes of the IB Learner Profile to develop students with positive attitudes towards people, the environment, and learning.  A strong emphasis is also placed on holistic learning, balance, and physical and emotional wellness, as our young learners develop and grow.  At VSA we work closely in partnership with parents and the wider community to produce lifelong learners who value hard work, respect others and exemplify our school motto, “Value yourself and others, Strive to be the best that you can be, and Act to make a better world.”
