Winning Gold in the International Science and Invention Fair 2020

Posted on: Tuesday 17 Nov 2020

We are proud to announce that five of our Secondary students won first place (Gold) in the International Science and Invention Fair 2020, competing against student scientists across the world. They successfully experimented and investigated ways to turn clamshells, a common non-edible food waste in Hong Kong, into a bioplastic (chitosan polymer) that could be used as a substitute for non-biodegradable plastics.

The bioplastic they made from clamshells has a remarkable ability to provide nutrition for green beans to grow, acting as an excellent fertilizer. The students hope the investigation will motivate teenagers to solve environmental problems by creating sustainable plastic.

Congratulations to our VSA scientists!
